1.One feather from the Good Lord Bird will bring you understanding for the rest of your life. It represents an angel, something so perfect that no one will touch it. For Henry it might mean a few different things. For one it may mean a peaceful relationship between him and Old John Brown, since Brown gave him one of it's feathers as a sign of good faith. Another possibility is maybe Henry himself is the Good Lord Bird. The way that he is protected by the others, and even being praised by John Brown at times. (Page 33, Chapter 2)

          2. Henry's nickname is Onion. He earned this nickname because John Brown had this onion in his possession that he considered to be a lucky charm. He gave it to Henry, and because he was hungry and confused, Henry took a bite from it without knowing that it meant something to John Brown. So now Brown calls him Onion because he is now his lucky charm. (Page 24, Chapter 2)

          3. The reason why Henry is continuing to live this lie is because he doesn't have any responsibilities. As a "girl" all he was asked to do was wash clothes and fetch water. If they knew he was a young boy maybe they would have treated him differently. So because of this i believe he is justified.

Lying

Is it ever okay to lie? Lying has always been a heated debate on whether or not it should be done. I know when I was a young kid my mother would always tell me that lying is a horrible thing to do. "No one likes a liar" she would say to me, and because of this I thought it was something that people never did. As I got a little older, I got a little wiser as well. I realized that as still a child there where things I could not understand, even if they would explain to me the truth. For example, when you ask a parent the classic question where do babies come from, what is a parent supposed to do? Now that i have grown into a young adult I personally think that lying sometimes is fine, especially when you do it to protect someone else. Yet even when telling the truth may be hard, it might be the better route in the long run. In Henry's case in the Good Lord Bird if he doesn't lie it may cost him is life.
